The American Highway Project
About AHPNewsGalleryMembershipBookstoreResourcesContactHome

Our  Mission:
The Purpose for which the Corporation is organized is to discover, procure, document and preserve through photographic media the architecture and cultural landscapes situated along the highways of the United States of America. We are creating a body of historical and contemporary images for exhibition, study, enrichment, education and enjoyment for future generations.

The American Highway Project is a not-for-profit New York State Corporation. On May 2, 1998 the IRS approved our application for tax exempt status as a 501 (c) (3) entity.

Our Web Site Serves Three Purposes:
1. A source of information concerning AHP projects.
2. An information library for individuals interested in all aspects of America’s vanishing road culture.
3. A technical resource for those interested in photography.

How We Will Accomplish These Goals...
A great portion of our time will be spent on various roadways interviewing local historians and residents whose lives have been shaped by the road. We will be photographing cultural landmarks and putting those interviews on tape. A lap top computer will travel with us and periodically we will update this site with interviews and digital images from the road.

It is our immediate goal to produce photographic books and exhibitions. Our long term goal is to  produce a body of work which will eventually be donated to an institution for future generations to study and enjoy.

Support and your continued feedback are extremely important for the success of this historical project. All donations well be used to directly fund project expenses – NO donations will be used for salaries. All principals of the organization work as volunteers!
